Technician Testing

Why does Asbestos need to be removed?

The removal of asbestos is a critical safety measure because the material poses severe, long-term health risks when fibres become airborne.

At one time, asbestos was once hailed as the 'miracle mineral' due to its heat-resistant properties, but because of the health risks associated with asbestos, it’s a critical safety measure to manage the material because of the long-term health risks when its fibers become airborne.

When asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) are disturbed, damaged, or undergo natural deterioration, they will release microscopic fibers that can be inhaled and become permanently lodged in the lung tissue.

This exposure is a leading cause of fatal diseases including mesothelioma and asbestosis.

Because of this, professional removal is essential for legal compliance; building owners have a ‘duty to manage’ asbestos under strict health and safety regulations.

DCUK Services for Asbestos Remediation

Depending on the size, scope and complexity of the project, DCUK can provide a wide range of services for the removal and remediation of asbestos material.

We provide specialist services in:

Asbestos and Land Remediation

Where required, DCUK can provide asbestos land remediation services, reclaiming contaminated brownfield sites through a comprehensive process that exceeds industry guidelines and legislation. Our expertise targets innovative solutions, such as asbestos waste ‘litter picks’ to provide value for our clients. All services delivered in accordance with CIRIA Asbestos in soil and made ground: a guide to understanding and managing risks (C733D).

Asbestos Encapsulation

Asbestos encapsulation is a process that seals asbestos containing materials (ACMs) with specialised coatings which acts as a protective barrier, preventing a future risk.

These protective coatings or physical barriers will seal the asbestos-containing materials, meaning harmful fibres are prevented from entering the atmosphere while extending the lifespan of the material without the need for full-scale removal.

Asbestos Notifiable Works

DCUK holds a valid 3-year asbestos licence meaning we are able to carry out high risk asbestos work as a licensed contractor. We can carry out Notifiable Non-Licensed Work (NNLW) which can include the removal and encapsulation of asbestos.

This type of work tends to be more high risk, requiring a formal notification to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the implementation of rigorous enclosure protocols, including negative pressure units, decontamination units and independent air monitoring to ensure the highest level of environmental control.

Asbestos Non-Notifiable Works

We are able to carry out non-notifiable works for the removal of lower-risk materials, such as asbestos cement roofing or floor tiles.

While these projects usually do not require HSE notification, they are still performed under strict safety controls by our trained professionals to ensure that no fibers are released during the dismantling and disposal process.

Soft Strip

Our soft strip services prepare a building for refurbishment or demolition by removing any non-structural elements.

This includes the systematic stripping of internal partitions, suspended ceilings, floor coverings, and mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring the site is clear, safe, and ready for the next phase of construction or regeneration. These works usually form part of an enabling works package, incorporating asbestos removal, providing a turn key solution.

Survey Assist

DCUK can support with survey assistance, ensuring that asbestos surveys are as accurate as possible.

We can handle the creation of access points, such as lifting floorboards or breaching walls, therefore allowing access to hidden voids and difficult areas safely. This collaborative approach ensures that no hazardous materials remain undetected before a project begins.

Team Removing Asbestos
Large Scale Projects

DCUK has vast experience working with clients on large scale projects across the country.

We specialise in executing major environmental contracts for transport networks, power stations, and large-scale manufacturing facilities where coordination between multiple stakeholders is vital.

These projects often involve complex phased works, allowing us to maintain safety and compliance across massive footprints without halting our clients' core operations.

Small and Medium sized projects

Our team provides tailored solutions for retail units, office blocks, hospitals and private businesses, delivering rapid response times and cost-effective remediation.

These projects are characterised by their efficiency, ensuring that hazardous materials are managed or removed with minimal downtime for the business.

Social Housing and Domestic

We partner with local authorities and housing associations to manage asbestos and environmental risks across large domestic portfolios, and will prioritise the safety and comfort of residents.

Our teams are trained to work in occupied spaces, maintaining clear communication with tenants and ensuring that all works are completed tidily, safely, and with the utmost respect for the domestic environment. All colleagues are DBS checked and trained in safeguarding procedures to prioritise the safety of our clients.

Our Asbestos Remediation Process

Independent comprehensive surveys to determine the extent and type of asbestos present.

Crafting a bespoke remediation strategy based on site-specific requirements and the asbestos specification.

Safe and efficient asbestos removal by our experienced team.

We endeavour to audit >50% of all of our projects, this ensures compliance with our strict standards. Our audits are carried by qualified third parties, client representatives and our own dedicated compliance team. These audits are provided to our clients for transparency.

Adherence to guidelines ensures asbestos waste is disposed of responsibly. We operate asbestos waste transfer stations that enable us to provide fully in-house service delivery and cost/time benefits, which can be passed onto our clients.

A thorough post-remediation inspection ensures the area is entirely free from asbestos risks, which is verified by the independent asbestos consultant.

This has become more fundamental than ever following the Grenfell tragedy and recommendations in the Hackitt report. The ‘Golden Thread’ of information extends beyond fire related services. Site documentation is critical for compliance with Social Housing (Regulation) Act 2023 and Awaab’s Law (2025), with mandatory timeframes for social landlords to investigate, fix and report on damp, mould and other hazards. Our digital solutions provide real time updates and transparency of data.
